What a jeep safari actually is
It is a convoy day trip, not a self-drive activity. The full-day Taurus jeep safari from Side starts at your hotel: a driver collects you in the morning, you take a seat in a 4x4 carrying eight to ten guests, and the line of jeeps leaves the resort strip for the tracks that climb into the Taurus foothills behind Side and Manavgat.
The appeal is contrast rather than adrenaline. Within a short drive of the beach you are on gravel where the asphalt ends — the first stop is an old Roman bridge — passing orange, lemon and pomegranate orchards, cotton and sesame fields, and Roman aqueducts still standing in the scrub. Nomadic Yörük families still move through these foothills; you may see them, and no honest operator will promise it.
Guiding runs in English, German and Russian as well as Turkish, so there is a good chance the day is explained to you in your own language rather than read off a board.
The vehicles, the driver and the convoy
The jeeps are 8-10 seat 4x4s with a professional driver at the wheel who runs this route as a job, not an adventure. Guests ride rather than drive — on the night safari that is written into the rules, and on the mountain safari the driving is the driver's throughout, which is where an honest answer on safety has to start: with who is holding the wheel, not with the badge on the bonnet.
Through the summer the jeeps are open-topped, which is the whole point of them and also the thing to plan for: sun, wind and dust on the tracks, plus the water fights between jeeps that are a tradition of the route rather than an accident. In winter the same day runs with covered jeeps and no water games.
The route: what you actually see
The Side safari climbs from the coastal plain to the reservoir country around Oymapınar and Green Canyon, and the stops alternate between landscape, water and village life.
In order the stops run: the old Roman bridge where the asphalt ends, orchards and Roman aqueducts, a panoramic viewpoint over Green Lake, the swim stop and Turkish pancakes at Oymapınar village, a photo stop at the dam, and the viewpoint above Green Canyon where lunch is waiting. Lunch, the swim stop and the optional boat trip
Lunch is included and is served at a lakeside restaurant by Green Canyon. Drinks are not included, at lunch or anywhere else during the day, so carry some cash.
The swim stop is at Oymapınar village, where freshly made Turkish pancakes and a drink are part of the break. After lunch comes the optional hour on Green Lake — a boat trip at EUR 5 per person, paid on the day, which brings the adult price for the whole day to EUR 25. Skipping it costs you nothing. Small extras such as the mini zoo tickets at the village break are also optional.
On the way back the programme may include Manavgat Waterfall, with the entrance fee paid on site. Treat that stop as a bonus rather than a fixture: it depends on the day's programme and is not guaranteed.
Price, and exactly what it covers
The Side jeep safari is EUR 20 per adult (13-99), EUR 10 per child aged 4-12, and free for infants aged 0-3. That is the full price of the day as sold — there is no compulsory extra bolted on at the meeting point.

Who it suits — families, children and older travellers
The price bands are the clearest guide there is to which ages can come along: adult from 13, child rate from 4 to 12, and free travel for infants aged 3 and under. Those bands, and a day built around stops rather than endurance, are what make it workable with children.
Two practical filters matter more than age. The tracks are genuinely bumpy in places, so anyone with a back or neck problem should say so before boarding. And you climb in and out of a high vehicle repeatedly through the day, in an open jeep under the sun in summer — comfortable for most people, tiring for some. The night safari is a different case: it is designed for guests aged 12 and over and is not suitable for people with mobility impairments.
What to wear and what to bring
In summer, dress for an open vehicle on dusty tracks with water in the middle of it, not for a coach tour. How to dress for an open jeep comes down to the four things the day throws at you: sun, wind, dust and, in summer, water.
In winter the jeeps are covered and there are no water games, so dress for a day in the mountains instead.

Which jeep safari to choose
The mountain safari from Side is the one most guests mean, but it is not the only one on the coast — and the alternatives differ in length, price and character rather than in badge.
The night safari is a five-hour evening for guests aged 12 and over, EUR 35 with dinner on board and a catamaran cruise. The rafting combos put the jeep and the Köprülü Canyon river into the same day, EUR 28 per adult from Side and EUR 40 from Evrenseki, Kumköy and Manavgat. Pickup areas and how booking works
Departures from Side itself cover the town and the surrounding resort areas, and the jeep safari also leaves from Manavgat, Evrenseki and Kumköy. For the smaller resort names along the same belt, pickup is arranged on request rather than run to a fixed schedule — ask before you book. The meeting point is the main entrance gate of your hotel, and the exact time is confirmed after booking, because it genuinely varies from hotel to hotel; we do not publish a time we cannot keep.
Booking takes no card. You reserve the seats, receive the confirmation, and pay in euros on the day of the tour. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure, which means an early-in-the-holiday booking costs you nothing if the week rearranges itself.
